WhyAreWeHere?

What Do "You" Live For? And Why Do You "Write"?

You woke up one fine Friday morning and saw in your email inbox an invitation to fly to Switzerland for a mini school reunion one month later with some very old friends. You chucked and then composed a letter of regret. Shit, you were no spring chicken. You didn't have starry eyes anymore. Your heart had many scars. Ego was something you no longer wore on your sleeves, as many assholes would do.

As you reach the twilight and the eventual demise of your life, you have been aware of one compelling thing: you are a late bloomer capable of incisive analysis of fundamental issues involving the Meaning of Life.

1. First of all, the overriding concern is to come to terms with two fundamental questions: Why Are You Here? And What Do You Live For?

To answer these two questions is to deal with Religion, Science, Philosophy, and Values. But first, you have to acquire Knowledge before you can answer the questions.

2. You contend that most people fumble around with the two questions because they don't have enough Knowledge and Intelligence.

3. Now, let's get to the personal specifics. While most humans hunger and thirst and lust after Money, Power, and Fame, you hanker after Knowledge/Truth and Justice. So, you have been stumbling and slouching to the following beliefs:

a) The Vietnam War (The Second Indochinese War) 1959-1975 was a civil war, armed and financed by foreign powers competing for power and influence. The North won because the United States that backed the South was tired of widespread domestic opposition to the war that was threatening to tear apart its social fabric, and wanted to get out of  Vietnam after:

-seeing an opportunity to ally with China to face the pestering Soviet Union which was fomenting revolutions in Central America, the backyard of the United States,
-receiving an assurance that China would not attempt to destabilize Thailand and beyond,
-and recognizing the enormous profits if trading with China.

The North won but made many big mistakes in its policies because of greed, paranoia, and ineptitude. Over time, the VC have proved to be much worse than whoever ruled Vietnam in the past. The VC are corrupt, inhumanly greedy, amoral and immoral, and too submissive in dealing with China, causing the populace to be disgusted with the regime and long for a regime change. The VC in the current form as we know it, will be gone. That's a foregone conclusion. Many competing forces are jockeying their positions and that's why we see the sound and fury on the Net. The biggest issue facing the post-VC era is whether or not the Catholics will be able to seize power and rule the united Vietnam as they did in their heyday of the VNCH Period. Will the majority but poorly organized Buddhists contend to be ruled by the Catholics who openly look down on their brethren?

b) We are born and we die. That's the stark absurdity of the Impermanence of Individual Life. We compete for scarce resources. Most of us shamelessly lie, bullshit, and malign those whom we don't lie or who are clearly superior to us and exhibit contempt to us. That's the pattern of behaviors that the human scumbags and assholes follow. And we all know who these human scumbags and assholes are in these Internet egroups. They have Ego but no sense of Honor or Self-Respect. They are emotional cowards that cannot deal with facts, truths, and realities.

c) You are a true, beautiful human. You don't lie. You traffic in facts, not lies and innuendos. Everything you have written can be verified and has been presented in unassailable, logical, rigorous line of reasoning and arguments. You write poetry and short stories in a language that is not your mother tongue. You can navigate in four languages and can haltingly read in five others. You read widely and eager to debate with any asshole that wants to cross verbal swords with you in English. This is an open challenge. Meanwhile, you have come up with an observation that the world in which we inhabit is nothing but Energy in various manifestations and systems and signs. A language is just a system of sounds and signs. To understand it, we simply need to know its decoding process. To understand a human involves the same process. We must understand the signs the individual exhibits: why he says or writes or acts the way he does.
