Love for another human is definitely a linear progression of feelings/thinking. There's nothing circular about the process. What happens is that the reactions/feedback from the love object contributes to the progression. Lesser minds (read: stupid people who are incapable of subtle thoughts and reasoning and perception) erroneously take/view the reactions/feed-back as part of the circular process of love, without realizing that love is a linear progression, involving steps and stages.
Real thinking is hard work. Not everybody is capable of profound and subtle thinking. Stupid and crazy and lazy folks just scratch at the superficial level. That's why they believe in God and rush to gurus for help. In the end, only we can help ourselves. We are the only agents of real changes in our lives. Don't look for external help.
How can I say more? A man is as big as his heart, as his words, as the extent and nature of his anger. We all know if we are big-hearted or small-minded.
I have seen men act like enraged animals in a casino and I felt sorry for him. Ego can be a slayer of mind, instead of a healer.
Few humans know how to deal with ego and power and even love. True love transcends ego and power.
It's not easy for a sensitive human to overcome desires for
1. Sex
2. Love
3. Ego gratification
If some of what VVA said about TNH was factually true, then TNH fell short, way short as a spiritual leader.
Additionally, slavish devotees have no true self-respect and spiritual strength, deep down. It's no accident that in Buddhism, there's a saying, "If you meet a Buddha on the road, kill him!"
If one feels a need for spiritual retreat or learning from a "master" instead of working out the problems on his own, one does not really understand that each person has his own particular brand of problems and only he himself can be his own savior. It's quite pathetic and childish for a grown man or woman to seek spiritual help from others. Are we really sure that the guru is really "better" than us? Or is he/she merely idol with feet of clay? Those who flock to spiritual "masters" cannot shed the ingrained childish longings for a parental figure/God who has all the answers.
In the end, silence says a great deal about a man. Be careful around men who don't say much.
